Docemu Market Fire: Lagos Fire Service Releases Update On Casualty, Property Loss
Eko Hot Blog reports that a fire has razed some buildings within the Docemu Market on Lagos Island, Lagos State.
The fire, which was reported around 8:50pm on Sunday night, erupted from a three-storey building within the market before spreading to a few other houses.
In a statement on Sunday, the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed that the service had brought the fire under control.
According to the fire service boss, the timely intervention of firefighters limited the damage to the affected buildings.
Nevertheless, the building where the fire started was “severely affected” although the other houses the fire spread to were “sparsely involved” according to Adeseye.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has brought under control the raging Fire at 54, Docemo Street, within the popular Lagos Market, Lagos Island,” the statement reads.
“The Fire which was reported at 20:50 hours, Saturday involved a trio of three storey buildings but the timely intervention of coordinated tactical firefighting limits it to only the topmost floors.
“While the house 54 where the Fire erupted from was severely affected, houses 56 and 58 it spread to were however sparsely involved.”
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is still unknown.
The Lagos Fire Service said it will carry out an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire and the affected variety of goods, including key lock/cylinder, decoration fittings, and Christmas items among others.
The service added that there was no record of injury nor death as operations entered “dampening down.”
