EKO HOT BLOG reports that the abduction sparked widespread concern, leading to negotiations with the kidnappers. After extensive discussions, her husband was released on March 8, 2024, but both Popoola and Abdul-Mugniy remained in captivity.

On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, the President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Tope Osundara, confirmed the release of both Popoola and her nephew in a telephone interview with Daily Trust.

Osundara stated, “Yes, it is true. It happened today (Wednesday). For now, we have insulated her away from people, and we only allow very limited access to her.”

Significantly, Osundara noted that no ransom was paid to secure their release, emphasizing, “No ransom was paid at all.” The details surrounding their release remain limited, as the association aims to provide Popoola with the necessary support and space to recover from her traumatic experience.
