EKO HOT BLOG reports that as of Monday, May 13, 2025, the black market selling price for the US dollar ranges from ₦1,615 to ₦1,630, while buying prices hover around similar margins.

Sell Rates:

  • ₦1,615 – reported by Alhj Hone on May 12

  • ₦1,630 – reported by Yusuf Dan on May 12

  • ₦1,630 – Yusuf Dan again on May 11

  • ₦1,615 – Alhj Hone on May 10

  • ₦1,625 – King Tiga on May 10

  • ₦1,640 – Yusuf Dan on May 9

From these, the highest recent sell rate is ₦1,640 (May 9), and the lowest is ₦1,615, still quoted by multiple traders today. The average selling rate stands at approximately ₦1,622.50.

Buy Rates:

  • ₦1,615 – Yusuf Dan on May 12

  • ₦1,620 – Yusuf Dan on May 11

  • ₦1,622 – King Tiga on May 10

  • ₦1,620 – Yusuf Dan on May 9

These figures place the average buying rate around ₦1,619.25, with today’s lowest reported buy rate being ₦1,615.

The slight increase in sell prices compared to last week indicates a consistent demand for the dollar, especially from importers, travelers, and businesses struggling to access official forex channels.

Despite the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) efforts to unify exchange rates and stabilize the naira, many Nigerians still turn to the black market due to forex scarcity. Analysts warn that without a significant improvement in dollar inflow from oil exports, foreign investments, or remittances, pressure on the naira will likely persist.
