Nationwide Protest: Don’t Protest in FCT, CP Warns

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, has urged residents and indigenes to abstain from participating in the planned nationwide protest.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, Igweh emphasized the significant security measures taken by the police to ensure the safety of the FCT, warning that the protest could compromise these efforts.

“I want to specifically appeal to residents and indigenes of the FCT. Lions do not destroy their dens. You cannot see a lion destroying its home. I implore you not to join this protest. We have worked tirelessly to ensure your safety,” Igweh said.

He recounted the sacrifices made by the police, including the recent loss of officers in operations outside Abuja aimed at safeguarding the FCT. “Last week in Gidango, I lost two policemen. Another two were lost recently. Let our sacrifices suffice. I plead with you.”

Highlighting the government’s efforts in infrastructure development, Igweh noted, “If you observe, the government has provided good roads. Whether it’s from the Minister of FCT or the President, you can see improvements from Wuse to other areas, even in the hinterlands. They are trying their best.”

He cautioned against allowing miscreants from outside the FCT to disrupt these improvements, stressing, “We don’t want to return to the previous state. I beg you, do not join this protest.”

Urging collective responsibility, Igweh concluded, “Let us continue to ensure the FCT remains safe. Act maturely and appreciate the security efforts made for your safety. If you do this, we will be happy and continue to provide security for you. God bless all of you.”
