Don’t Reject Corps Members – Sanwo-Olu Urges Employers

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged employers of labour in both the public and private sector not to reject Corps members posted to serve in their organisations in the State.

He made the call on Monday at the closing ceremony/parade for the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation course held at the NYSC temporary Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, appealed to various establishments in the State to provide adequate welfare for the corps members during their service year in accordance with the National Youth Service Corps Act.

The Governor also charged corps members to develop the entrepreneurship requisite skills acquired during their 21-day orientation course in order to be self-reliant, become wealth creators and employers of labour in the face of daunting unemployment challenges facing the country.

He noted that the development of the skills will also qualify them to access loans from the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund which was established to empower youths to set up and grow their business.

Sanwo-Olu congratulated them on the successful completion of the three weeks programme designed to induct them into the national service and encouraged them to contribute to the overall socio-economic and political development of Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.

While enjoining the Corp Members to put in their best with the aim of leaving indelible marks in critical sectors of the State, the Governor promised that excellent performance among the corps members will be duly recognised and rewarded at the end of the service year.

“I enjoin you to put in your very best with the aim of leaving indelible marks in the area of Health Care Delivery, Educational Services, campaign on HIV/AIDS awareness /prevention Sustainable Development Goals, Social Services and Agriculture among others. Dear compatriots, I implore you to develop the requisite skills acquired during your orientation course as this will make you self-reliant, wealth creators and employers of labour”, he stated.

Earlier in his address, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mr. Sunday Aroni urged the Corps members to take their posting in good faith and ensure that they serve their Fatherland with all sense of patriotism, dedication and diligence.

He urged them to avoid the abuse of social media or post false news and hate speech in line with the Federal Government’s efforts at containing avoidable crisis in the nation.

About 206 graduates had undergone the mandatory National Youth Service Corps training to instill in them integrity, efficiency, commitment and teamwork in their primary and secondary assignments to make them perform excellently.
