EKO HOT BLOG reports that a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State, Samuel Kwamkur, has expressed his concerns regarding the recent statements made by the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai. Speaking at a press conference in Jos, Kwamkur cautioned El-Rufai against making inflammatory remarks that could ignite tensions within Nigeria.
Kwamkur’s remarks came in response to alleged statements made by El-Rufai before handing over to his successor, where he reportedly claimed that the Islamic dominance achieved in Kaduna would be replicated nationwide.
Furthermore, El-Rufai purportedly stated his intention to sustain an Islamic-dominated government for 20 years, not only in Kaduna State but across the entire country.
Expressing his disappointment at the former governor’s divisive rhetoric, Kwamkur highlighted the negative implications of categorizing citizens as “them” versus “us.” He argued that El-Rufai should be held accountable for the acts of violence, demolitions of houses, and places of worship targeting Christians in Kaduna, as his remarks seem to justify such actions.
Kwamkur went on to criticize El-Rufai for transforming from a potential candidate for high government positions into a “confirmed religious bigot with a hidden agenda to destroy the country using religion.” He urged El-Rufai not to mislead Nigerians into believing that President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory was solely aimed at Islamizing the nation.
Highlighting the dangers of religious polarization, Kwamkur emphasized that Christianity promotes truth, unconditional love, and inclusivity. He denounced El-Rufai’s extreme fanaticism and warned against the consequences of discrimination and religious dominance, which can lead to anarchy and crisis.
In his address, Kwamkur called upon El-Rufai to utilize platforms like the Nigeria Interreligious Council (NIREC) to foster unity rather than perpetuate division. He highlighted the importance of focusing on governance, poverty alleviation, healthcare, and the overall well-being of the citizens instead of promoting hate and religious differences.
Ultimately, Kwamkur urged political leaders to demonstrate genuine concern for the welfare of the people and to eschew divisive rhetoric. He called for a collective effort to empower individuals and uplift the nation, exposing any hidden agendas that may undermine Nigeria’s progress.
