Given Neymar’s ongoing struggle with a knee injury since last year, it came as no surprise that the superstar player was not included in Brazil’s Copa America squad.
Since his move to the Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal last summer, the former Paris Saint-Germain winger has only managed to play three games, primarily due to fitness concerns.
In addition to Neymar, another notable omission from the squad was Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus.
His inconsistent playing time at Arsenal has likely contributed to his exclusion from the Copa America squad, as he is not deemed fit enough to represent Brazil.
The absence of Casemiro from the squad is particularly surprising, especially considering his strong performance and likelihood of being included.
Nevertheless, he was not listed for the Copa America.
Certain pundits speculate that Coach Dorival opted to exclude the veteran midfielder due to criticism he has faced from the British press.
Richarlison, who now plays for Tottenham Hotspur, was left out of the squad due to a decline in his performance.
Additionally, Thiago Silva, the outgoing Chelsea defender who announced his return to Fluminense, was omitted from the squad due to a significant decrease in playing time at Chelsea.
Below is Brazil’s Full Squad for the 2024 Copa America:
Goalkeepers: Alisson Becker (Liverpool), Éderson (Manchester City), Bento (Athletico-PR)
