Dr Tunji Alausa Unveils Task Force for Cervical Cancer Elimination
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Morufu Tunji Alausa, on Thursday, officially unveiled the Nigerian National Task Force Committee for Cervical Cancer Elimination at an inaugural ceremony held today.
The development is a significant move towards combating cervical cancer in Nigeria.
Addressing members of the newly-formed task force, Dr Alausa noted that team will address one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Nigeria.
According to him, “Cervical cancer remains a major health challenge for women in Nigeria, but today marks a significant step towards changing this narrative.
“The establishment of this task force is a testament to our collective commitment to eradicating a disease that is both preventable and treatable.”
The Minister highlighted that the selection of the committee members was based on their unmatched expertise, dedication, and proven track record in public health.
He expressed confidence in their ability to employ innovative strategies and tireless efforts to achieve the goal of eliminating cervical cancer.
“This is not merely an assignment; it is a call to service with the potential to save countless lives and uplift the health standards of our nation,” Dr. Alausa added.
He assured the task force of the ministry’s support, including financial assistance, logistical support, policy formulation, and stakeholder collaboration.
Dr Alausa outlined the key objectives of the task force, including fostering community awareness, enhancing screening programs, ensuring the availability of vaccines, and improving treatment facilities.
He emphasized the importance of building global partnerships and learning from international successes while adapting strategies to Nigeria’s unique context.
The minister urged the members to justify the confidence placed in them and work diligently towards the task at hand.
