Ekohotblog reports that Senator Magnus Abe, who formerly represented Rivers South East Senatorial District, was inaugurated as the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Executive in Rivers State on Tuesday.

The inauguration happened two days after the APC’s national State Congress, which was marred by crises in numerous States throughout the Federation.

The inauguration took place at the Freedom House, Sen. Abe’s campaign secretariat in the GRA area of Port Harcourt, deepening the party’s factional crisis in Rivers, as another faction loyal to the former governor and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, claimed to be the authentic APC executives in the state.

Those inaugurated included Golden Chioma, state chairman; Mike Amakiri, deputy chairman; Inye Jack, secretary; Joy Woko, state woman leader, among others.

Speaking with newsmen after the inauguration, Chioma said their faction held the ward, local and state congresses that produced leaders at the various levels in the state, even as he called on Governor Nyesom Wike to prepare his handover note in 2023.

This move has cast more doubt on Rt Hon. Rotimi Amaechi’s leadership of the APC in Rivers State.

Senator Abe and the Minister have been at odds over the soul of the APC in Rivers State. The party lost the governorship election in the state in 2019 as a result of this event.
