EDITOR’S PICK:
The way an automatic car is driven determines how long it will last. Driving too sloppily or harshly on your car will shorten its lifespan by a few years, even though an automatic transmission vehicle is extremely safe, there are a few things you should avoid at all costs while driving.
1. Don’t Lunch Your Vehicle
One thing that many individuals who drive an automatic car do is rev the engine in neutral before switching to drive mode to move the vehicle ahead. This is an emphatic NO. It will just harm the automatic transmission, and replacing one is a costly endeavor. Put the gearbox in drive mode and drive. That’s the appropriate way to do it. That’s all there is to it.
2. Never Use two legs to Drive
One of the most common errors made by automatic car owners is driving with both their left and right legs. The brakes and accelerator are the only two pedals found in automatic vehicles. People tend to accelerate with their right foot while braking with their left.
This is a risky approach that could lead to unanticipated consequences. You could accelerate and brake at the same time, causing the vehicle to lose control. Setting your left foot on the dead pedal or letting it rest while using your right foot for both accelerating and braking is the ideal practice.
3. While driving downhill, Never put your automatic car in neutral
You won’t be able to accelerate the car because of this tendency, but you will be able to slow it down. It interrupts the oil flow, preventing the transmission from receiving the necessary lubrication for smooth functioning. It also leads to a lot of wear and tear.
So, if you’re traveling downhill, what should you do? Instead of using neutral, use the 2 and 1 gears to manually downshift. Instead than relying on the brake pads, learn to brake with the engine. Maintain a comfortable speed at all times.
4. Never put your car in neutral on traffic
This is a typical misunderstanding. When driving in traffic, people are recommended to put the car in neutral to save gasoline and decrease torque converter wear. The truth, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. You won’t save any petrol by putting the car in neutral.
Transmission damage can occur when you change to neutral in traffic or at a stop light. When leaving your automatic car in neutral, there are other safety considerations. Take, for example, how traffic begins to pick up speed. Leaving your car in neutral reduces the vehicle’s speed and movement. As a result, there’s no necessity to put the gearbox in neutral while you’re stuck in traffic.
5. Never Switch From Reverse to Drive Without Stopping
Almost every automatic driver has admitted to committing this mistake. Stopping your automatic car and then shifting into reverse seems excessively time-consuming. However, this action may necessitate pricey repairs.

When you don’t come to a complete stop before shifting to R, the transmission is forced to change direction quickly, damaging the gearbox. Before transferring from drive to reverse or reverse to drive in an automatic transmission car, make sure you’ve come to a complete stop.
