DSS Dismantles Lokoja-Abuja Road’s Reign of Terror

  • The Department of State Services have been able to track down and arrest a criminal gang believed to be behind the terror along the Lokoja-Abuja road in Kogi State.

  • According to DSS spokesman, the gang involved a retired military officer identified as Col AU Suleiman, a lawyer and some others.

  • DSS revealed to have recovered a pump-action rifle, four cartridges, an AK-47 empty shell, and N11,030 from the gang.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a criminal gang that has been terrorizing the Lokoja-Abuja road in Kogi State, Nigeria’s North Central region. The DSS, in a statement on Sunday, said that the arrest was made during a joint operation with other security agencies in the state.

According to Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, the gang includes a retired military officer, Col AU Suleiman (rtd), a lawyer, MK Aminu, Kabir Abdullahi, Isah Umar, Kadir Echi, and Adama Abdulkarim. The suspects were apprehended at Gegu Beki junction along the Lokoja-Abuja road.

The DSS said it recovered a pump-action rifle, four cartridges, an AK-47 empty shell, and N11,030 from the suspects. All the suspects have been taken into custody and will be prosecuted accordingly.

In a related development, on March 25, 2023, the DSS arrested a suspected notorious kidnapper, Haruna Adamu, at Fotta village in Gombi LGA, Adamawa State. The security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and four rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition from the suspect.

On March 23, 2023, the DSS arrested a suspected gunrunner, Aminu Ibrahim, along the Kubwa Expressway, Abuja. The suspect was on his way from Nasarawa State to deliver 432 rounds of 7.62 x39mm caliber ammunition concealed in a four-liter gallon of palm oil to a bandit in Niger State. The sum of N21,400 was also recovered from the suspect.

Earlier on March 22, 2023, Babangida Ibrahim, an arms courier to bandits in Zamfara State, was apprehended along Bukuru in Jos South LGA, Plateau State. The DSS recovered 468 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and N21,090 from the suspect.
