Duma Boko Sworn In As Botswana’s New President, Ends 57 Years Party Rule
Botswana inaugurated its new president, Duma Boko, on Friday, marking a historic shift in leadership after his decisive election victory ended nearly six decades of rule by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
Duma Boko, 54, took the oath of office in the capital’s national stadium before thousands of supporters, with dignitaries from neighboring countries Madagascar, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe attending the ceremony.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the human rights lawyer turned politician addressed the crowd, stating, “I stand before you today the living embodiment of your deep and true resolve.
Together, we usher in a new political dawn. This is your story. Embrace it, be a part of it. Acknowledge the role that you played, and continue to play in its unfolding.”
Boko’s party, the left-leaning Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), secured 36 seats in Botswana’s parliament in the October 30 election, a stark contrast to the BDP’s four seats—a dramatic shift for the BDP, which had governed since Botswana’s independence from Britain in 1966.
Former President Mokgweetsi Masisi, who conceded defeat shortly after the election, attended the inauguration.
Dressed in Botswana’s national colors, Boko circled the stadium in a vehicle flanked by galloping white horses, greeting the cheering crowd in a symbolic gesture of unity and celebration.
