Dutch Sperm Donor Sues Netflix Over ‘The Man With 1,000 Kids’
A Dutchman who claims to have fathered 550 children through sperm donations is suing Netflix over its documentary The Man With 1,000 Kids, which he called “sensationalist.”
During a late-night chat show on Tuesday, Jonathan Meijer, 43, revealed that he is pursuing legal action against the documentary, accusing it of slandering him and the families he helped create.
Meijer disputed the documentary’s claim that he may have fathered up to 3,000 children, stating, “Five hundred and fifty, that’s the number I know for sure. Anything beyond that is pure speculation.”

He explained that his lawsuit aims to challenge what he described as falsehoods, labeling the show “sensationalist” for airing without his involvement.
Meijer first gained media attention last year when a court ordered him to cease donations after fathering between 550 and 600 children since he began donating in 2007.
Dutch guidelines stipulate that a sperm donor should not father more than 25 children within 12 families.

The court found that Meijer had misled families about his previous donations, creating a “vast kinship network” of hundreds of half-siblings, which the court believed could lead to psychosocial issues for the children, including identity problems and fears of accidental incest.
On Tuesday, Meijer clarified that he had stopped donating sperm in 2019, except to families seeking additional children with his help.
He said he wants the documentary removed to protect the children, who are “being recognized in public.”
