Eaglets Sets For Accra To Defend Their WAFU B Tournament Title

Eko Hot Blog reports that The reigning champions, Nigeria, will arrive in Accra, Ghana today, for the defense of their WAFU B U-17 Championship title, as the tournament kicks off on May 15th.

Two years ago, the Golden Eaglets, boasting five world championship titles, triumphed in Kumasi, Ghana, overcoming all challengers.

However, their performance faltered at the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations in Algeria, rendering them ineligible to vie for another world title in Indonesia.

The squad, now under the guidance of Manu Garba, the coach who led the team to victory in the 2013 FIFA World Cup.

They are poised to face Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Togo in Group B of the forthcoming WAFU B tournament.

Their primary goal is to secure qualification for next year’s Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

He has named a squad of 19 players for the tournament.

They include Adekunle Adedigba, Sylvester Chika, Daniel Mendie, Destiny Samuel, Abdulwaris Yunus, Boluwatife Ekishola, Ibrahim Abdulganiyu, Edward Ochigbo, Rapha Adams, Simon Karshe Cletus and Oreoluwa Agbenla.

Others are Okorie Chibuike, Abdulmuiz Adeleke, John Ogwuche, Qurib Adetola, Chinedu Dominic, Abdulmuiz Oladimeji, Daniel Arierhi and Imrana Muhammad.

Garba will head a technical team tasked not only with defending the regional title.

But also with enhancing the squad’s performance for a strong showing at the U-17 AFCON and potentially securing a sixth world championship.

The Eaglets kick off their title defense against Burkina Faso at the University Stadium on Thursday, with the match scheduled to start at 3 pm Ghana time (4 pm Nigeria time).

Following this, they will face Niger Republic on Sunday and Togo on May 22.

The encounter with Niger Republic will also be held at the University Stadium.

While the match against Togo is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.
