Early Morning Downpour: Epe Community is Submerged As Homes, Roads And Drainages Are Flooded

An early morning downpour on Sunday, in Epe brought untold hardships to residents, as some roads, houses, and drainages were submerged in flood.

Eko Hot Blog Correspondent reports that the torrential rainfall which started around 6:00 am in parts of the metropolis left many roads, neighbourhoods, and drainage flooded.

The floodwater also swept some debris in its path, causing some drains and drainage channels to become blocked.

Mr Ayodele Samuel, a resident of Epe, told the Eko Hot Blog that his entire street was flooded, while some residents watched helplessly as their household items were affected with the heavy downpour.

Mrs Lateefat Alaya, who lives at Epe central, also told Eko Hot Blog that the level of flooding at the Epe community was above the knee.

“I walked from Ita-Opo to Oke-Balogun and everywhere was absolutely flooded; people were scooping water.

“My friend house was also flooded, including the dogs’ shelter, which I have never witnessed before.

“We hope the council chairman and his councillors will work to resolve the drainage problems in the community, ” she said.

Eko Hot Blog also observed that some residents of the flood-prone parts of Eredo LCDA were more concerned with the task of salvaging some of their submerged valuables, as some of the cars parked on the streets were affected, except those on elevated platforms.

Mr Saheed Adebanjo, a motorist, appealed to the concerned authority to hasten in the resuscitation of Epe/Ibeju-Lekki and Ikorodu/Epe Express road.

Adebanjo said that both dua multiple purpose express link road is in chaos.

He told Eko Hot Blog that the highways are in shamble, begging for government urgent attention for repair.

“Both Epe Ibeju lekki and Ikorodu/Epe expressway are nothing home to write about.

“We commercial vehicles are finding it difficult to navigate our ways to and fro.

“The hardship experience day by day apparently brought about hike in transport fare, ” he said.

Also, Alhaji Tunde Lawal urged the government to be proactive in addressing the condition of the Ibeju lekki/Epe expressway.

Lawal said that the road is no go area this morning, as the flood has taken over the bad road.

“We need government urgent present on the road for repair before it’s become unbearable for motorists.

“If the rain pour persists for days, Epe business activities will be affected, as there won’t be the road to connect from Lagos mainland to Epe, ” he said.
