EKO HOT BLOG exclusively reports that Auto dealer Ikechukwu Daryl Ogbonna, popularly known as IVD, has been remanded over the death of his wife, Abimbola Ogbonna by a magistrate court in Ebute Metta.
An Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of auto dealer IVD over the death of his wife, Abimbola Martins-Ogbonna. The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of Lagos State has indicted IVD for involuntary manslaughter, and the Magistrate has ordered that the defendant be arraigned before the Lagos High Court.
Despite defense counsel’s request for IVD’s release based on earlier bail conditions, Magistrate Adebayo Kafayat Tella held that she lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case of involuntary manslaughter and that all bail applications should be presented before the high court. The case has been adjourned till March 7, 2023.
Bimbo died as a result of injuries sustained in a fire incident that occurred in the couple’s residence in Megamound Estate, Lekki on October 15, 2022, after a dispute with IVD. The couple, who were married for 16 years and had five children, had a troubled marriage with allegations of domestic violence.
EKO HOT BLOG has learned that the deceased had confronted IVD over repeated assault and maltreatment, leading to a fight that resulted in their house being set ablaze. IVD escaped with minor burns, but Bimbo was not so lucky.
IVD was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba. The case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice for Bimbo.
