ECI 12th Biennial Convention Kicks Off With Party Ride To New Orleans

The 12th Biennial Convention of Nigeria’s largest diaspora group, Eko Club International (ECI) kicked off with a bus ride to New Orleans on Thursday, October 28, 2021.

The convention, held every two years since the inception of the club in the early 2000s signals the first major physical gathering of the club’s members since the lockdown restrictions inspired by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic early last year.

Eko Hot Blog reported earlier that over 1000 participants from the United States, Europe and Canada, officials of the Lagos State Government and traditional rulers from Nigeria will attend the 12th biennial conference of the organisation.

The convention kicked off with registration of participants who flew in from different chapters of the club – USA, Canada, Europe as well as a contingent from the host state, Lagos.

Ahead of what is expected to be an eventful three-day event, members of the club could be seen in high spirits gearing up for the bus ride to New Orleans which was slated to mark the kick off of this year’s conference.

After the bus ride, club members are expected to double back to Baton Rouge to perform a community development initiative by donating food items to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank on Friday, October 29th. The goodwill donation is specifically for the victims of the Hurricane IDA.

Due to the need for caution in light of the lingering effects of the Covid pandemic, the 12th Biennial convention would be held with strict compliance to the outlined Covid-19 preventive protocols. Attending guests will be required to provide proof of vaccination by sending in their vaccination cards.

The convention is expected to provide a platform for the leadership and membership of the club to proffer more viable contributions towards furthering the fundamental philosophy of the organisation.

Elections to determine the new leadership that will consolidate on the achievements of the progenitors is also expected to highlight the 12th Biennial meeting of the Diaspora group.
