ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff meet in Abuja, chaired by Nigeria’s General Christopher Musa, with key defence and foreign affairs officials in attendance.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Chiefs of Defence Staff of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting is chaired by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who serves as the chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff.

Attendees include the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Ahmed Lawan; Chairman of the House Committee on Defence; a representative of the National Security Adviser; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; service chiefs; and Chiefs of Defence Staff from ECOWAS countries, except Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.
Meanwhile, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has called on protesters in Nigeria to heed President Tinubu’s call for dialogue.
In a statement, the Commission expressed deep regret over the reports of violence during the protests, including the unfortunate deaths of some protesters and the alleged looting and destruction of public and private properties.
“The Commission extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and sympathises with the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria over the losses,” the statement read.

The regional bloc affirmed its recognition of citizens’ right to peaceful protests, as guaranteed by the 2001 ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance and enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
