A Nigerian employed as an Executive Assistant in the Economic Commission for West Africa States ( ECOWAS) Community Court, Stephen Temitope Obasaju, has been sacked from the commission after putting in only nine months of service.
Obasaju’s termination of appointment took effect from August 31 this year.
The termination letter dated July 15, 2019 and signed by the president of the court, Justice Edward Amoako Asante said the action was based on what the judge that asked for the sack of Obasaju, described as “irreconcilable differences”.
The sack letter explained that the commission had looked into the complaints of the judge and sat on the recommendations of a committee set up to look into the matter and resolved that “there are irreconcilable differences between you and the honourable Judge.”
The termination letter said the Director of Administration had been directed to pay Obasaju his entitlements according to the terms of his employment.
Obasaju has, however, protested his sack on the grounds that the action of court “is illegal” as he was not given a fair hearing, adding that his dismissal did not also “follow the ECOWAS staff regulations on staff disciplinary procedures.”
