Eddie Hearn Hints Anthony Joshua Could Be In His Final Year Of Boxing

Anthony Joshua may be approaching the final year of his boxing career, according to his promoter, Eddie Hearn. In an interview with The Times, Hearn suggested that the 35-year-old former heavyweight champion could be nearing the end of his journey in the sport.

Joshua, who suffered a setback earlier this year against Daniel Dubois, was aiming for a third title reign before the loss, which has left him reflecting on his future in the ring.

Hearn had previously indicated that Joshua might activate a rematch clause for a fight with Dubois, potentially scheduled for February 2025. However, injuries have since slowed Joshua’s progress, leading to speculation that the bout could be delayed until later in the year.

Hearn, who has guided Joshua’s career from the beginning, has worked with other champions like Canelo Álvarez, Gennady Golovkin, Vasyl Lomachenko, and Katie Taylor. Despite calls for Joshua to retire following his loss to Dubois, the British boxer has insisted he isn’t ready to walk away just yet.

After Katie Taylor’s recent victory over Amanda Serrano, with retirement on the horizon for the Irish fighter, Hearn remarked, “This could be [Joshua’s] last year in the sport.” Many believe that Joshua’s final fight could be a high-profile clash against Tyson Fury, as the 33-year-old has reportedly earned around £175 million throughout his career.

While Joshua is eager to settle the score with Dubois, the rematch is likely to take place in late spring or early summer of 2025, with Hearn confirming that May or June is a likely time frame.

“He wanted to fight on February 22 but unfortunately we kind of had to overrule him on this and say no because we can’t afford not to get this right.

“If you get beaten again by Daniel Dubois you have to seriously consider your future. We got one last chapter in this career that we need to make sure we get 100 per cent spot on.

“So when he comes back in May or June or whenever that’s gonna be you got to be physically mentally 100 per cent ready. He wants to rematch Daniel so bad.”
