Edo Assembly To Serve Deputy Governor’s Impeachment Notice Via Publication
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Edo State House of Assembly has directed that the impeachment notice against the state Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, be published in national dailies.
This decision comes after Shaibu allegedly refused to acknowledge the impeachment notice previously served on him by the House last week.

During the resumption of plenary on Monday, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, accused Shaibu of rejecting the impeachment notice. “It is clear that the deputy governor has rejected the impeachment notice served on him by the House,” Agbebaku stated.
Consequently, the Speaker instructed the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Omogbai, to publish the notice in the Nigerian Observer newspaper and other national dailies. “The House will serve him by substitution by publishing the letter in three national dailies, The Observer inclusive,” Agbebaku directed.
Last Wednesday, the lawmakers commenced impeachment proceedings against Shaibu, accusing him of perjury and leaking of government secrets. This move is believed to be the latest development in the rift between Shaibu and his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Tensions have been brewing between the deputy governor and Obaseki since last year when Shaibu declared his interest in joining this year’s governorship race, creating an uneasy calm within the state’s leadership.
The impeachment notice served on Shaibu is a significant step in the ongoing political turmoil, reflecting the deepening rift between the deputy governor and the governor.

By ordering the publication of the notice in national dailies, the Edo State House of Assembly aims to ensure that Shaibu is formally notified of the impeachment proceedings against him, despite his alleged refusal to acknowledge the initial notice.
As the situation unfolds, the people of Edo State are closely watching the developments, which could potentially impact the state’s political landscape and governance in the months leading up to the governorship election.
