Eko Hot Blog reports that in a startling accusation, Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation in Edo State, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is dragging the name of the revered Oba of Benin through the mud.

According to Nehikhare, this is a calculated strategy by the opposition party to turn the people of the state against the palace, with the ultimate goal of winning the upcoming gubernatorial election.
However, the commissioner remained adamant that this move would backfire on the APC.
During a press briefing, Nehikhare displayed what he claimed to be an APC WhatsApp group chat, where members were allegedly debating the merits and demerits of this strategy.
“We all agreed that we are coming into election and there is so much madness in town. It has become clear that it is the intention of the opposition to drag the reputation of our Royal Majesty into the murky waters of their dirty politics,” Nehikhare stated.
Moreover, he accused APC members of openly propagating “distasteful and demeaning information” against the Royal Palace, alleging that they have resorted to “weaponizing a negative campaign against our traditional institution” due to their lack of a “sellable candidate and intelligence to market their bad product.”

“We however want to warn them that this disrespectful comment about our traditional institution is not a strategy for campaign and since they have no plan and have a defective candidate come September 2024, PDP shall trample upon them in a free and fair election to resounding victory,” Nehikhare warned.
The commissioner also urged journalists to maintain neutrality in their coverage ahead of the election, cautioning against being “dragged into this kind of cheap propaganda.”
