EKO HOT BLOG reports that Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes in the election held on September 21, defeating his main opponent, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata came in third with 22,763 votes.
The APC made notable strides in the election, winning in more than 10 of the state’s 18 local government areas. The PDP managed to win narrowly in the remaining councils. APC also dominated two out of the three senatorial districts, marking a significant shift in Edo’s political landscape.
However, the PDP has rejected the election results. Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, stated that the people of Edo voted for the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and insisted that he should be declared the governor-elect.
