The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a victory in the first local government area announced in the Edo State governorship election as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the collation of results.

The PDP won in Igueben Local Government Area with 8,470 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC), which garnered 5,907 votes, while the Labour Party trailed with 494 votes.
The major candidates in the election include Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.
Edo State consists of 18 Local Government Areas, including Akoko-Edo, Egor, Esan Central, Esan North-East, Esan South-East, Esan West, Etsako Central, Etsako East, Etsako West, Igueben, Ikpoba-Okha, Oredo, Orhionmwon, Ovia North-East, Ovia South-West, Owan East, Owan West, and Uhunmwonde.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced collating the results of the governorship election held in Edo State on Saturday.
Prof Rhoda Gumus, INEC National Commissioner in charge of the election; Dr Anugbum Omuoha, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC); State Returning Officer, Prof Faruk Adams Kuta, and other key officials are all seated.
In his opening remarks at the collation centre, Omuoha vowed that nothing would make the commission fail the Edo people during the ongoing governorship election process.
He said the people’s will would be reflected in the end, calling for patience and understanding.
