The Edo State Government has directed security agencies to arrest #EndBadGovernance protesters who block major roads, obstruct vehicular traffic, or extort motorists.
Chris Osa Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, issued this directive on Sunday in a statement released in Benin City.
Nehikhare stated that anyone arrested would face the full extent of the law.
“We want to warn hoodlums and criminals who might exploit the protest to cause chaos that security forces are authorized to apprehend anyone disrupting public peace or committing crimes,” he said.
He continued, “We have received reports of individuals blocking major roads, obstructing traffic, and extorting motorists. Security personnel are instructed to detain those engaged in such activities and ensure they face legal consequences.”
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the state government commended the peaceful conduct of protesters during the nationwide demonstrations, noting that they have expressed their views responsibly and maintained good relations with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies.
Nehikhare encouraged law-abiding citizens to go about their daily activities without fear, assuring that the government is committed to the state’s growth and progress.
