Edo, Ondo’s Election: What Is Your Stance?

I have picked up my pen to write on what politicians in Edo State and Ondo State should consider as a paramount value before and after the coming elections. What is that supposed to be if not Love!

Love is an essential prerequisite to getting good governance in our country, Nigeria, at this political level of ours. This is what we should be looking for as Children do during the hide and seek to play in the moonlight!

My fellow Nigerians, love is gone in our midst, and whoever finds it will be rewarded with fabulous gifts because I think that is the only solution to all our problems in Nigeria as a whole.

The fall-out here and there among politicians in Edo and Ondo, as they are preparing for the governorship elections respectively, has to be dealt with accordingly.

I don’t know why Nigerians forget things so soon after the fact that one of the powerful and influential personalities in the Aso-Rock just left this world!

Abba Kyari, the former Chief of Staff to President Muhammad Buhari, left the world without taking anything along. Is that not worth taking as a measure to guide someone’s ways of thinking about life?

If you love your neighbors as you love yourself, you will never think evil about him or her. You will take things (Jeje) as Tubaba said in one of his music tracks.

In the past in Nigeria, within the period of the 60s; 80s, Nigerians were living in a peaceful co-existence irrespective of their religious differences because the leaders of all religions only propagated their religions in one statement: “love your neighbors as you love yourself”. It was rare to know who was a Christian or Muslim during any religious, festive period, especially EID-KABIR and CHRISMAS. This was how our forefathers lived their lives right from first to the third republic.

We had two political parties during the third republic: National Republican Convention (NRC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The parties were required to draw from a national rather than a regional or tribal basis. Moshood Abiola (MKO) a Yoruba man won a conclusive victory in the presidential election on the SDP’s platform defeating Bashir Tofa of the NRC. MKO won even in his Northern opponent’s home state. This happened because there was no TRIBALISM and FANATICISM but LOVE! Nobody said, “why are the candidates Muslim and Muslim? Why is it not a platform of a Christian and a Muslim?”

When the election of the third republic was annulled the whole country mourned it. Can we still practice politics and vote for the candidate of our choice in Edo State and Ondo State with the spirit of LOVE?
