“At about 11:45 a.m. on December 22, 2024, a distress call alerted us to an ongoing robbery at Restoration Gospel Ministry, located at 11 Oviasuyi Street, off Ogiemwenke, Benin City,” the statement said.
Upon arriving at the scene, police operatives from the Saint Saviour Divisional Headquarters arrested the 35-year-old suspect, John Agbontean, with a cut-to-size gun while attempting to rob the church.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that during questioning, Agbontean confessed to being an ex-convict who had been released from Oko Prison, Benin City, on December 19, 2024. He revealed that he had conspired with an accomplice, identified only as “Ola,” to rob the church during its end-of-year harvest thanksgiving. While Agbontean was arrested, his accomplice narrowly escaped.
