– Gov Obaseki of PDP declared the winner of 19 September, 2020 governorship election.
– Godwin Obaseki polled to defeat his closest rival Ize-Iyamu who trailed with votes.
There seems to be light at the end of the long dark tunnel for the embattled incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki as the people of Edo State have swung the pendulum in favour by overwhelmingly reelecting him as the governor of the State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, September 20, 2020 declared the People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, as the winner of the governorship election held in the state on Saturday, September, 2020.
Obaseki polled a total of 307955 votes to defeat his major opponent, Pastor Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 223619 votes to emerge second.

Announcing Obaseki as the winner, INEC’s Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of University of Petroleum Resources, Effuru, Professor Akpofure Rem-Rukeh, stated that Obaseki emerged the winner after scoring the highest number of votes during the poll.
Godwin Nogheghale Obaseki who was born on July 1957 in Benin City Nigeria is a Nigerian politician and businessman. He was sworn in as the governor of Edo State on 12 November, 2016 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Before his election, he was the Chairman of the Edo State Economic and Strategy Team inaugurated by his predecessor, Adams Oshiomole in March, 2009.
The incumbent Governor however fell out with his predecessor in the twilight of his administration; a development that culminated to his eventual exit from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party whose platform he has been elected.
With his return as the duly elected Governor of Edo State for another four years, Godwin Obaseki will again be sworn-in in November as the Executive Governor of Edo State putting an end to the wrangling political tension that has engulfed the State for the past one year.
