In a bid to encourage professionalism and reward outstanding performance of both teaching and non-teaching staff, the Lagos State Education District I has celebrated the hard work of its teachers and members of staff who had contributed to the advancement of education in the State.

Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking at the event held recently at Government Senior College, Agege, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the District, Margaret Titilayo Solarin said the merit award was organised to appreciate principals, teachers and members of staff who have contributed immensely to the learning development in the district, saying it is an annual event designed to encourage members of staff to give their best.

She affirmed that both the teaching and non-teaching staff are favourably contributing to the progress of the schools under the district, adding that everyone is working as a team to ensure rapid development in the academic performance of the students.

In her words: “The academic performance of students in Education District I can be evaluated with the 2021 West African Examinations Council (WAEC), where our students performed brilliantly well. That is one of the reasons we will continue to celebrate the teachers behind the success of our students”

Mrs. Solarin also made reference to the second edition of the Lagos State Teachers Merit Award where five teachers from the District won SUV cars, attesting to the fact that the State Government acknowledges the outstanding performances of teachers across the State.

The TG/PS, however, urged the teachers and members of staff to keep the flag flying in the interest of the students and the district at large.

Also speaking, the Guest Speaker, Mr. Fola Adekeye encouraged the awardees to cultivate the habit of reading, saying that good readers tend to be good leaders. He suggested that a minimum of six self-development books should be read in a year by teachers who want to fare better in their careers.
