Eko Hot Blog reports that for the Solo Performances, Education District III emerged first while District V and District VI took the second and third positions.
In her address at the event held at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo commended the excellent performances of the students, saying: “It is a beautiful time away from the academics to see students showcase their innate talent in music. This further exemplifies the essence of the co-curricular aspect of education. The Soloists warmed our hearts as they entertained, however, it is the brilliant participation that matters most”.
Mrs. Adefisayo also revealed that the annual music festival is a core part of the Co-Curricular Services Division of the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, restated the significance of the annual programme which is to encourage students to discover their artistic talents.
He said: “We will continue to encourage the pupils and students to unearth and polish their talents in other aspects. It is not ideal to focus only on academics or limit them to classroom studies”.
The two judges at the event, who are seasoned musicologists, lauded the State Ministry of Education for ensuring the continuity of the annual event, saying “We have seen the best of raw, untapped talents here. We, therefore, urge the teachers and students not to rest on their oars”.
The high point of the event was the presentation of trophies for outstanding performances and certificates of participation to district representatives by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Abolaji Abayomi and the Tutor-General/ Permanent Secretary, District III, Dr. (Mrs,) Olufunke Oyetola.
