The six Education Districts in Lagos State joined the rest of the world to celebrate the year 2020 World Commonwealth Day with a cultural display by students at the Education Resource Centre, Ojodu as part of activities to mark the day.
In her keynote address at the event organised by the State government themed, “Delivering A Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming”, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo said this year’s theme was apt for a time like this when the State is committed to setting achievable goals that would help in planning, implementing and, ultimately, transforming the education sector in Lagos’ growing economy.
Adefisayo explained that the present administration has spared no effort in entrenching quality teaching, through the Eko Excel initiative, for teachers to adopt modern practices in accordance with the objectives of the Ministry of Education, through the BOS Education Transforming Plan 2020.
She stressed that with the presentations by the various Districts, showcasing the need for changes in the Education Sector, the government has already embarked on revamping the sector for greater prospects.
She revealed that under the BOS Education Transformation Plan 2020, the Public Schools in Lagos will witness construction and upgrade of infrastructure .better school governance administration and enhancement of the Special Needs Education division with investment in technology.
While commending the teachers and students for the impressive presentation displayed, she lauded the creative innovative minds of the children on the realities of the Society and harped on the need for the Education Sector to have a paradigm shift for the next generation.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja said the children from the various Districts are gifted and are expected to showcase various talents in their presentations.
Highpoints of the celebration were the presentation of trophies to the First, Second and Third positions, in which Education District I, clinched the first position; second and third positions were won by Education District IV, and Education District II respectively.
