The federal government has suspended 13 students of Federal Government College, Enugu, following a recent bullying incident that sparked outrage on social media.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the incident, which occurred on November 7, 2024, involved a gang assault of an SS1 day student by a group of fellow students. A disturbing video of the attack quickly went viral, raising alarms about safety and discipline within the school.
In response, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, issued a statement titled “Ensuring a Safe and Secure Learning Environment,” expressing grave concern over the matter. The minister emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe learning environment and confirmed that immediate actions were being taken.

A statement from the Ministry of Education, signed by Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, revealed that the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) had been tasked with working alongside security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation. This includes looking into possible affiliations with external groups and any wider implications.

In line with this, Dr. Alausa announced that the 13 students involved in the assault would be suspended for six weeks while the investigation continues. He assured parents, guardians, and the public that the Ministry is committed to restoring peace and ensuring the protection of all students at the school.
“The safety of students in all federal schools is our priority,” Dr. Alausa said. “We are taking all necessary actions to address this issue and ensure that the affected students are supported in their rehabilitation.”
To further enhance security, law enforcement has been engaged, and the school’s existing safety protocols are being reviewed. Additionally, counselling and support will be provided to the students involved to help reintegrate them into the school environment in a positive way.
The Minister called on all stakeholders—parents, school authorities, and security agencies—to work together to create a safer and more supportive atmosphere for students across Nigeria.
