Adeolu Adeboye, son of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, is reportedly under investigation by the EFCC for allegedly misappropriating over ₦8 billion received from the Kaduna State Government for a road construction project.
Despite receiving the funds, only 30% of the project was completed before it was abandoned.
The contract was secured through Ronchess Global Resources Plc during former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Kaduna State Government and House of Assembly have launched an investigation into the alleged fraud.
In response, Adeolu filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Lagos to prevent his arrest or detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Kaduna State Government, and the House of Assembly.
On May 16, 2024, a team from the Kaduna State House of Assembly inspected the Wusasa to Danmagaji Nagoyi Road project site in Kaduna North Local Government Area and found that work had ceased, despite the ₦8,195,014,236.95 paid to Ronchess Global Resources Plc.
The original contract, valued at ₦8.74 billion, was revised to ₦17.26 billion, with an initial completion date of January 2, 2021.
Adeolu sought an interim order to halt any further action against him, which was granted by Justice K.O. Ogundare of the Federal High Court, restraining the respondents from proceeding until the court rules on the motion for an interlocutory injunction.
The EFCC, in a counter-affidavit, alleged that evidence of fraud and criminal diversion of public funds was found against Adeolu and 26 other contractors.
The EFCC’s legal team, led by Femi Falana (SAN), argued that Adeolu’s use of the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules was an attempt to address ancillary grievances rather than enforce fundamental rights.
The case has been adjourned to September 20, 2024, for further proceedings.
