EFCC Arraigns Chinese National Liu Beixiang for Alleged False Information in Lagos

- Liu faces allegations of providing false information to an EFCC officer
- The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge
- The defendant’s counsel, F.A. Dalmeda, revealed that an application for a plea bargain had been submitted to the EFCC.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Chinese national, Liu Beixiang, also known as Lao Liu, before Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Liu faces allegations of providing false information to an EFCC officer, which violates Section 96(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap. M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The charge reads: “That you, Liu Beixiang (a.k.a Lao Liu), sometime in December 2024 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did give information, which you knew to be false, to an officer of the Federal Government of Nigeria in the discharge of his duties and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 16 (1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, and Justice Faji adjourned the case until May 12 for the continuation of the trial.
In the interim, the court granted Liu bail on the condition that he provides one surety who must be a resident of Lagos and hold a valid means of identification.
The defendant’s counsel, F.A. Dalmeda, revealed that an application for a plea bargain had been submitted to the EFCC.
Dalmeda also stated that a motion for bail had been filed, to which the EFCC had already responded.
“We filed an application for a plea bargain, and we also filed a motion for bail, which the EFCC responded to this morning.
“We need a date for us to report on the plea bargain.
After hearing the defense counsel’s request for a plea bargain in Justice Faji adjourned the proceedings until June 23, 2025.

In the meantime, Liu Beixiang has been remanded to a correctional facility pending the outcome of the plea bargain process.
