Governor Matawalle, who is currently under investigation for alleged corruption, made the accusations against Bawa during an interview with BBC Hausa. The governor asserted that he was being targeted because he refused to comply with the EFCC chairman’s supposed demand for the substantial sum of money.

Uwujaren further emphasized that Governor Matawalle must provide concrete evidence to substantiate his allegations if he wishes to be taken seriously.
