Some Lagos residents have lamented the hike in prices of food items and transportation, as a result of the Eid-Al-Fitr and ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Currently, Ekohotblog understands that the restrictions by the Lagos State Government have negatively impacted the food supply chain with the tightening of transportation which has resulted in the shortage of food supply.
On Friday, this online news platform visited some markets along Orisumbare, Iyana-Ipaja, Ile-Epo axis with reports that the current increase in foodstuff is extremely outrageous.
Mr. Adaeze Olagoke, a trader at Orisunbare who sells Garri, Rice, Beans said a paint of garri was sold for N350 now N1, 300, paint of rice sold for N1, 800 sells for N2, 800.
Mummy Ola, a pepper seller said that a medium-sized basket of tomatoes that was sold for N1500 was now sold for N2,900, even pepper and others things are very expensive.
Alhaji Aminu, a tomatoes trader at Iyana-Ipaja market, said that the cost of transporting the Tomatoes and Pepper from the north to Lagos was the reason for the hike in price and joined with the pandemic wahala is seriously troubling.
Even those who buy pepper to resell were noticed buying very little quantity due to the sudden hike in price and forthcoming Muslim celebration.
Also, Mr. Idris who was caught shopping for his family ahead of the Muslim celebration, told Ekohotblog that he was really surprised at the sudden increase in foodstuff, although he visited the market a few weeks back and there was a little increase in food items but coming here today, it had all doubled up.
