EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a tragic incident on Thursday, a clash between officers of the Amotekun Corps in Ekiti State and traders at the bustling Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti resulted in the alleged shooting to the death of one person.
The confrontation unfolded when the Amotekun officers attempted to relocate the traders from Atikankan to a new designated area, Agric Olope, as directed by the government.
Tensions escalated as some traders vehemently opposed the new policy and launched an attack on the Amotekun officers, leading to a chaotic situation. During the altercation, one of the traders reportedly fired a weapon, resulting in the loss of life. In a retaliatory response, two officers from the Amotekun Corps were severely assaulted by the enraged traders.
The situation quickly deteriorated, prompting the deployment of armed policemen to the area in an effort to prevent further escalation of the conflict. At present, the area remains under the control of law enforcement authorities.
