Ekiti State Government has commenced the recruitment of personnel into its security network called Amotekun Corps.
The Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Brig.- Gen. Joe Komolafe (rtd), made this announcement on Wednesday while addressing Journalists in Ado-Ekiti.
Komolafe noted that registration forms are free for eligible residents of the state, adding that people between 18 and 60 years with educational qualifications from the minimum of Primary School Leaving Certificate and above are to proceed to the online platforms for registration.
Speaking on the recruitment process, the commander said applicants are expected to download the application form online at www.amotekun.ekitistate.gov.ng and get endorsement letters from their monarchs affirming that they are indigenous members of the state and vouching for his/her character “as people of questionable behaviour would not be employed to be part of the Corps.”
Komolate, however, assured prospective applicants that the process would not be based on political structure or status or any form of inducement, adding that only the best and most suitable applicants would be enlisted for the security network.
He, further noted that Governor Kayode Fayemi has empowered him to see through the recruitment process based on his past antecedent, and as such he will not give room to any politician to to compromise the standard set for the security network.
“We call on our people who are interested in being part of Amotekun to go online at www.amotekun.ekitistate.gov.ng and apply.
“Our traditional rulers will play a key role in this regard as these applicants will need attestation letters from them to confirm they are from the stated community and have never been involved in any form of criminality.
“The governor has told me he will give me a free hand to do this very important job and achieve the desired results of securing Ekiti. I won’t allow any politician to compromise the standard set for the security outfit and I can assure you that we will not allow politics to derail us,” he said.
Komolafe explained that the Amotekun Corps was a child of necessity to checkmate insecurity ravaging the Southwest states and assured all residents that the body would be above board in securing the state.
He appealed to everyone in the state to support the security outfit in their respective communities with accurate and timely information, noting, “this is our own security operation and it must not fail.”
Recall that Governor Kayode Fayemi in March signed into law a bill backing the establishment of the network aimed at ending kidnapping, killing, and other crimes.
Ekohotblog reports that Amotekun corp was established on 9 January 2020 by the six-state governors from the South-Western region of Nigeria. The states are Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti State.
The establishment of the security outfit was subject to the decision by all the six state governors at the regional security summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria in June 2019 through Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Commission (DAWN), which was aimed at ending kidnapping, killing, and other crimes.
In support of the outfit, all the six state governors contributed 20 vehicles each, except Oyo that contributed 33 vehicles, in order to assist the operatives in carrying out their duties, making a total of 133 vehicles for the startup, they also procured 100 units of motorcycles each, making a total of 600 motorcycles.
