Eko Club International Commiserates With LASG And Victims Of Ikoyi Building Collapse
Eko Club International, a community of Lagosians in the diaspora, has expressed its heartfelt commiseration to the Lagos State Government as well as the families who lost loved ones to the tragic building collapse at Gerrard Road Ikoyi, Lagos state.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Rokosu-Lawal on Friday, November 5, 2021, the group lauded the proactiveness of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and other non-governmental paraphernalia who worked their fingers to the bone to keep the damage to the barest minimum.
They also called on non for profit organisations and civil society to pool efforts with the state government towards accelerating rescue missions and attenuating the disastrous consequences of the tragic event.
The statement reads: “Eko Club International (ECI), representing Lagos State indigenes living outside the shores of Nigeria, expresses deep sympathy and commiserates with the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as well as friends and family members of the victims of the collapsed buildings in Lagos, especially at Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria, on November 1, 2021.”

“As Lagosians, we commend the decisive actions taken by the Governor, and applaud ongoing rescue missions by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other governmental and non-governmental apparatus, as well as other volunteers championing the rescue efforts.”
“As a non-profit organization with majority interest in the well-being of Lagos indigenes, we also use this opportunity to call on non-governmental establishments, including non-profits, as well as corporations and individuals to join hands with the government of Lagos State in not only the rescue mission, but other efforts that will benefit the people of Lagos State. We are certain of better outcomes when government efforts are complemented by those of other stakeholders.”
“We pray that the Almighty God comfort, strengthen, heal, and grant members of victims’ families the peace and the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses. We continue to pray for the lives of those who are still buried under the rubbles of the collapsed building. May Almighty God bring them out alive!”
So far, no less than 40 casualties have been recovered from the debris of the collapse that also killed the developer of the property and CEO of Fourscore Homes Limited, Mr Femi Osibona.
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered a forensic probe into the extenuating circumstances surrounding the building collapse with a view to preventing a similar tragedy in the future and also bringing those found either negligent or culpable in the event to justice.
