Eko Club International, the apex socio-cultural and socio-political community of Lagosians in the diaspora, is set to hold its quarterly conference & awards ceremony for the second quarter of the year 2021.

As gathered by Eko Hot Blog, the conference is slated to hold on June 25, 2021, at Columbus, Ohio, United States of America.

ECI is a community-based organization of Lagosians in the Diaspora, established to foster cooperation and collaboration, unity, brotherhood and sisterhood amongst its members, to empower its members politically, socially and economically and to contribute positively to the advancement and prosperity of Lagos State.

According to Lanre Ojo, President of Eko Club International, the quarterly conference, which constitutes one of the core activities/programs of the club, is aimed towards conducting an objective appraisal of the club’s achievements during the last quarter and also recognize the contributions of its members who have used their personal resources for the gratification of the community of Lagosians at home and abroad.

“The award has different categories for people who have stood out by using their resources to help the underprivileged,” Lanre said in an interview with Eko Hot Blog.

Categories of this Quarter’s Conference & Awards include the ECI StandOut Service Award, ECI Academic Excellence Award, ECI Humanitarian Award, ECI Conflict Management Award and ECI Community Leadership Award.

Others are; ECI Trailblazer Award, ECI Health & Wellness Advocate Award, ECI Pacesetter Award and the ECI Community Service Award.

The club president also underscored the need for Lagosians in the diaspora to cultivate a habit giving back to the society since government alone cannot make the difference we desire to see in our society.

Reacting to the popular stereotype that has made the generality of Nigerians in the international community become infamous for organized, economic and financial crimes, Lanre said only a minor percentage of Nigerians were culpable of what has become an unfortunate label for the country.

He blamed the media for overly sensationalizing stories of Nigerians who have been enmeshed in criminal activities abroad and insisted that the vast majority of Nigerians in the Diaspora are contributing positively to the development of their indigenous communities and their host communities as well.
