Eko Hot Blog reports that the Eko Club of Pennsylvania is set to unveil a new computer laboratory for the Lagos Island School Authority on Friday, July, 14.
The St John School, Aroloya, in Lagos State is the beneficiary of the computer lab.
Eko Club of Pennsylvania, a not-for-profit organisation in the state of Pennsylvania, USA, is a chapter of the big diaspora-based Eko Club International, an umbrella organisation of Lagos State indigenes.
Ahead of the unveiling of the computer lab, the President of the Eko Club of Pennsylvania, Prince Adewale Dosunmu, spoke with Eko Hot Blog to provide an insight into the project and the motive behind it.
He told our correspondent that this particular project is in line with the aims and objectives of the club.

“The Eko Club of Pennysylvania is an independent affiliate of the Eko Club International with similar objectives and aims to foster unity, camaraderie, and socio-economic development through collaborative efforts of all members and through specific targeted relationship with organisations that have created a niche in areas that will benefit the target audience,” Prince Dosunmu said.
“The target audience is the people of Lagos state. We want to participate in reducing the level of hunger, degradation, and deprivation of social amenities in the areas of education, health, and economic development, among others.”
He further intimated Eko Hot Blog on the developmental growth the club hopes to achieve with this project.
According to him, “one of our core missions and objectives is to give back to the community both in the diaspora and back home. We strongly believe in the adage that says ‘charity begins at home’.
“About 2 years ago, the executives of Eko Club of Pennysylvania decided that it was imperative to partner with an institution in the educational sector to create an impactful programme for students.
“As a result of this resolution, the executives spoke to a couple of people, and that led us to the Lagos Island school authority.
“We found out that there are three centres that were created to teach students computer science. Thus, we decided to take a look at these centres. Of all the centres visited, we discovered that St John Aroloya was the largest. This formed our decision to begin our project with the school.
“When we visited the school 2 years ago, we met a dilapidated structure. The environment wasn’t conducive for learning, and this further pushed our decision to begin here. Our aim is to provide a conducive environment where students can learn and compete in a world largely driven by technology, digital advancement, AI technology, code writing, etc.”

The club president further stated that the Lagos Island School Authority is a worthy recipient of the project, adding that the authority showed much enthusiasm and support in setting up the computer lab.
“The officials we met with and collaborated with are very professional and helpful and they see the benefits of what we are trying to do and there assistance got us to where we are today. Without their corporation and support we would not have been able to implement this programme easily,” Prince Dosunmu said.
“I owe them a debt of gratitude for their interest in ensuring the facility is upgraded to a high standard.”
He also disclosed that St. John, Aroloya, was chosen as a beneficiary because many students within the area come there to learn computer science.
According to the Eko Club of Pennsylvania president, the club believes that starting from there will be beneficiary to more students than starting from a small centre.
He added that “with time, probably by next year, we would visit other centres and replicate what we have done at St John.”
Prince Dosunmu finally gave thanks to God for the successful completion of the project.
