  • Optimism for Reform:Despite setbacks, he remains optimistic about Nigeria’s electoral progress.
  • Call for Civic Engagement: Abass urges active citizen involvement for meaningful electoral improvements.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Otunba T.J Abass, publisher of the popular Eko Hot Blog, expressed optimism for the future of Nigeria’s electoral system despite recent challenges with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) while speaking from a U.S. voting center.

Abass, a prominent Nigerian diaspora leader, shared his experience voting in the U.S. primaries, describing a quick and seamless process taking less than 10 minutes. “I went in in less than ten minutes. I am out. My vote has been recorded, counted in less than ten minutes,” he remarked.

He highlighted the convenience and accessibility of the U.S. system, where voters can cast ballots at any polling station by presenting ID. “The beauty of primaries is you can vote in any location in Houston, Texas,” he said.

In contrast, Abass noted Nigeria’s recent general elections were marred by malfunctioning BVAS machines, which caused long delays and disenfranchised voters.

However, he maintained hope that Nigeria will improve its electoral process over time to match advanced democracies.

“We are not there yet in Nigeria, but I’m sure we will get there. Don’t lose hope. The best in that country is not behind us. It is yet to come,” Abass stated optimistically.

He emphasized Nigeria’s strong spirit of resilience and capacity for reform. “The task of nation building is a collaborative venture Leaders have their role. We also have a role to play,” he said. The question is, have we all played our roles as expected?

Abass encouraged Nigerians to play an active role in demanding better elections rather than waiting on leaders alone. “Get up your part. Go there and make it happen. Nigeria will be great, and we can make it, give it. We are the ones that will make it greater,” he urged.

In closing, the Eko Hot Blog publisher reiterated his steadfast faith in Nigeria’s future progress and success. “I believe that Nigeria will still get better. Whatever we’re going through right now, it’s a phase we’ve been through before and what has defined us as a country is our spirit of resilience. We will overcome this, and Nigeria will be great again.”

“I know that the present administration is putting in place a series of reforms that are designed to take us from the current economic quagmire into prosperity

The reform is still very painful. It’s a gradual process. But we will get there.

The president is an individual who truly loves Nigeria and wants the best for Nigeria. He has the swagger, he has the tenacity, and I’m sure he will get it done.

“But you know that to have a better country, we must change our mindset. Nigeria will be great, just like America.

America was not great overnight; it took years of hard work and belief. So, we should be patriotic and believe that the best of Nigeria is yet to come. And change our mindset.

Let’s exercise patience with the administration and continue to give our support. Nigeria will be great,” Abass stated about the president and his regime
