EKO HOT BLOG reports that Former governor of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai, announced during his senate screening that President Bola Tinubu’s vision is to guarantee a consistent power supply throughout Nigeria within seven years.
El-Rufai, who was asked by Senator Abdulaziz Yari about his strategies to confront the energy crisis, pointed to Tinubu’s resolution to permanently resolve the issue.
He emphasized that without a steady electricity supply, substantial industrialization cannot occur.
He acknowledged the persisting issues in the power sector, saying, “It has defied every president.
“Tinubu is committed to ensuring that Nigeria has a stable and reliable electricity supply.
“The president’s vision is that within seven years we will not have power outages in this country.”
Despite these challenges, he stated that Tinubu had asked him to collaborate on addressing the power problem, a task he is ready to undertake.
El-Rufai identified insufficient gas supply as a significant hindrance to power generation, noting that “Generation stations cannot produce because of poor supply of gas. Eighty per cent of our generation is from gas and the rest is hydro. The gas-fired station often doesn’t have a supply of gas,” he said.
“There are power stations that have been completed three years ago but have produced nothing because there is no gas supply. You must ensure that gas and power are together under one roof.”
The struggle with consistent power supply has been a long-standing problem in Nigeria, with disruptions in the national grid repeatedly occurring in recent years.
