Elder Statesman Slams Buhari’s “Unholy Alliance” With National Assembly
-
President Buhari appears to enjoin a better working relationship with the 9th National Assembly.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Edwin Clark, an Ijaw national leader, says President Muhammadu Buhari’s affinity with the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS) is “unholy”.
Clark, in a recent statement, sighted by this newspaper, criticised NASS’ behaviour, saying it “behaves as though it is an appendage of the Executive”.
“In every democracy, the President or Head of State is answerable to the people and not the other way round. Mr President’s unholy alliance with the National Assembly (NASS), is like throwing a dagger on democracy. A situation where the NASS behaves as though it is an appendage of the Executive is very undemocratic,” Clark said.
Buhari had a poor relationship with the 8th National Assembly, but appears to enjoin a better working relationship with the 9th National Assembly. This, because the heads of the two chambers are the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) chosen ones.
President Buhari is expected to leave office when his two-term tenure expires in May 29, 2023.
