EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Senate and the House Representatives have postponed resumption till Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
This online media gathered that the two chambers on Monday postponed plenary till next Tuesday to enable them to partake in the forthcoming governorship and state assembly election.
The adjournment was necessitated because of the postponement of the governorship and state assembly election from March 11 to March 18, 2023.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had earlier shifted the plenary to March 14 before the governorship election was postponed.
He said, “We have to adjoin for all of us to participate in the campaigns and elections of the governors and states assembly members.”
However, in a new copy of a memo signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, sighted by The Punch, the plenary was postponed to next Tuesday.
The memo said, “This is to inform all Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the resumption of the Senate in Plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday, March 14, 2023, to Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
“All distinguished senators are by this notice requested to resume sitting in plenary on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, by 10 am prompt, please.”
Some of the senators contesting governorship seats include the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, Aishatu Binani (APC-Adamawa), Haliru Jika (NNPP-Bauchi), Sandy Onor (PDP-Cross River).
Others are Uba Sani (APC-Kadana), Emmanuel Bwacha (APC-Taraba) and Teslim Folarin (APC-Oyo), and Albert Bassey (Akwa Ibom) under the Young People’s Party.
