Electricity Cable Vandalism Threat to Growth, Security of Epe Community – CNI

Ekohotblog reports that the Concerned Nation Builders Initiative (CNI), Nigeria, has urged the government to take proactive measures to combat the rising cases of electricity cable vandalism in the Epe Division.

In a statement released on Tuesday, December 9, 2024, the group proposed the installation of discreet CCTV cameras at strategic locations to protect the community’s critical electricity infrastructure.

Speaking on behalf of CNI, Chief Tele Idris Olukoya emphasized the adverse impact of vandalism on the division’s development and called for collective action to address the issue.

“Electricity cable vandalism is a threat to the growth and security of our community. It disrupts power supply, slows development, and puts lives at risk. We are urging the government to prioritize this issue by installing discreet CCTV cameras in strategic areas. This will not only deter vandals but also aid in tracking and apprehending culprits,” Chief Olukoya stated.

The initiative’s call aligns with growing concerns among residents about the economic and social setbacks caused by frequent power outages linked to vandalism. Community leaders have also expressed frustration over the negative impact on local businesses and public services.

A local business owner, Mrs. Ajayi, shared her experience: “The power cuts caused by vandalism have been a major challenge for us. We are losing money and customers. If installing cameras can stop this, we fully support the idea.”

CNI also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. “If you see something, say something,” Chief Olukoya urged. “We all have a role to play in safeguarding our community.”

The group emphasized that addressing cable vandalism would not only restore reliable power supply but also boost the overall security and prosperity of the Epe Division.

“We believe that with the government’s intervention and the active cooperation of residents, we can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone,” Chief Olukoya concluded.
