Eleven Killed In Fresh Benue Attack

No fewer than eleven persons were killed when suspected herdsmen invaded Mbakyondu, in Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State.

Many were also injured in the attack that happened at about 4:am on Friday night when the residents were fast asleep.

A media aide to the LG Chairman, Mr. Udam Samuel, who confirmed the incident, said recovered bodies of the deceased have been retrieved and deposited in a morgue at Naka, the LG headquarters.

Samuel said a detachment of security operatives has been sent to the affected to restore peace.

He said: “Security agencies swang into action as directed by the executive chairman Gwer-West LGC, Hon Mrs Grace Igbabon.”

Mr. Udam, a native of the village also said some members of the community were still missing as bodies were still being recovered.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine also confirmed the incident.

The PPRO disclosed that a team of officers have been deployed to the area to forestall further attack.

“A team of Police officers has been deployed to the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order. Further information will be communicated to you please”, the PPRO added.
