Elon Musk Rebrands as ‘Kekius Maximus’ on X

The world’s wealthiest individual, Elon Musk, has ignited widespread curiosity by updating his name on his social media platform, X, to “Kekius Maximus.”

Eko Hot Blog reports that the tech magnate who shares a close relationship with US President-Elect Donald Trump—has yet to provide an explanation for his new moniker or the accompanying profile picture, which features Pepe the Frog, a meme that has been co-opted by far-right groups.

This unexpected change has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency community. A memecoin, named after the same term, experienced a dramatic surge in value following Musk’s update.

While the billionaire’s social media activity has historically influenced cryptocurrency markets, it remains unclear whether he has any direct connection to this specific coin.

The name “Kekius” appears to be a playful Latinization of “kek,” an internet slang term synonymous with “laugh out loud,” which originated in gaming culture but has since been associated with alt-right symbolism.

Intriguingly, “Kek” is also the name of an ancient Egyptian deity linked to darkness, often depicted with a frog’s head.

Meanwhile, “Maximus” likely evokes comparisons to the iconic character Maximus Decimus Meridius, portrayed by Russell Crowe in the film Gladiator.
