The recent deluge, among the worst in decades, has struck multiple regions in the Ural Mountains and Siberia, as well as parts of neighboring Kazakhstan.
Triggered by the bursting of a dam along Europe’s third-longest river, the crisis has escalated rapidly, leaving communities grappling with the aftermath.

In Orsk, a city in the Orenburg region, residents, frustrated by the lack of assistance from local authorities, turned to President Vladimir Putin for aid.
They voiced their grievances amid what has been described as the worst flooding on record.
Responding to the escalating crisis, Alexander Kurenkov, head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, was dispatched to the region by Putin.
His mission: to assess the situation firsthand and coordinate relief efforts. Kurenkov’s visit extends to the Kurgan and Tyumen regions in the Urals, where preventive measures are already underway.

Rescue teams have been bolstered, and emergency forces are on high alert, the ministry announced via the Telegram messaging app.
The Ural River, originating in the Ural Mountains and flowing into the Caspian Sea, experienced a dramatic surge in water levels, swelling several meters within hours on Friday.

The breach of a dam embankment in Orsk, located 1,800 km (1,100 miles) east of Moscow, compounded the unfolding disaster, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated response efforts.
