Eko Hot Blog reports that the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has delivered a message to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, urging her to inform her husband, President Bola Tinubu, about the challenges and suffering faced by Nigerians due to economic hardship in the country.
The monarch shared this message during a visit by Senator Tinubu to the palace in Kano.
While acknowledging that the challenges were inherited, Emir Bayero called on President Tinubu to intensify efforts to alleviate economic hardship and address the issue of insecurity in the nation.
He specifically mentioned the high cost of living and the need for the government to revisit the proposed relocation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) offices to Lagos.
“Although, we have several means of communicating to the government on our needs and requests, you are the surest way to tell the President the happenings in the country. We get information daily that essential commodities and the cost of living are high, and people are suffering, although it didn’t start with this government. We know the government is making efforts, but it should redouble efforts to ease the suffering faced by the people,”
“The issue of Insecurity is another serious problem we are facing. I know your government inherited it but something more seriously should be done to take care of the threats… Do more enlightenment on this matter. I cannot tell the intentions of the government; we should be able to understand the relocation of the CBN and FAAN offices now to Lagos,” – Emir Aminu Ado Bayero
In response, Senator Oluremi Tinubu called on Nigerians to be patient with her husband’s administration, expressing optimism that President Tinubu means well for the country and that things will improve.
She appreciated the warm welcome she received from the Kano State Government and the school children along the way to the Emir’s palace.
“Although we have challenges, there is no way everything will be fine at the same time. Nigerians should please be patient with us. The President means well for the country, and with your support, things will get better,” Senator Oluremi Tinubu
Meanwhile, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin commended President Tinubu for ordering the release of 102,000 tonnes of rice, maize, millet, and other grains to address the high cost of food. Jibrin urged governors and local government chairmen to follow suit and release grains to the people, emphasizing the importance of supporting the federal government in addressing the challenges faced by the country.
“At this trying period, we should all support the Federal Government to address the challenges our country is currently facing. As we all know, the rising cost of food is a global phenomenon, and our country is not unaffected by it. It is against this background that I implore states and local governments to distribute food items to those in need across the country to cushion the effects of the rise in the cost of food items,” Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin
The Emir of Kano’s message and the subsequent responses highlight the ongoing efforts to address economic challenges and food security in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of communication and collaboration between the government and the people.
